U.S. Visa Fees

Anyone applying for a nonimmigrant visa to the United States must pay a non-refundable visa application fee.

The fee is different for different types of visas. The most common nonimmigrant visa types, such as tourist, business, student, and exchange visas, cost US$185. Most petition-based visas, such as work and religious visas, are US$205. K visas cost US$265, and the fee for E visas is US$315.


You can pay your visa application fee at any major bank.


Your visa application fee is non-refundable. You will receive a receipt after paying the application fee. You must schedule an interview appointment or submit an interview waiver application within 365 days of paying the fee.

Visa Types with No Fee Required

You do not have to pay the visa application fee if you are applying for one of the following types of visas:

  1. A
  2. G
  3. C-2
  4. C-3
  5. NATO
  6. Diplomatic visa

Other Fees

In addition to the visa application fee, you may also have to pay other fees, such as:

Visa issuance fee: This fee is based on “reciprocity” (what another country charges a U.S. citizen for a similar type of visa).

SEVIS fee: This fee is charged to F, M, and J visa applicants.

Blanket L Fee: This fee is charged to first-time principal applicants who are covered under a blanket petition for L status.
